$90,000 available for events in Fiordland

A further round of the Fiordland Regional Event Fund is now open, with $90,000 available for events that attract visitors from outside of the region.

The fund was established by the government as part of its post COVID-19 Tourism Recovery package and is administered by Great South.

Already, $490,000 has been distributed to more than 25 events in Fiordland across three funding rounds.

Events that have benefitted include the Te Anau Long Lunch, the Fiordland Climbing Invitational, and the Te Anau Ukulele Festival coming up in October.

A $180,000 fund for Southland events was exhausted in October 2021.

Great South Conference and Events Manager Karen Witham said anyone with an existing event they would like to add value to, or a new event in mind should get in touch.

“We’re really happy to talk through ideas people might have.”

Applicants have until 26 August to submit their applications for this funding round, with a decision due 30 September.

Applications are assessed by an independent panel.
