The Regional Events Fund was established by the government as part of its post COVID-19 Tourism Recovery package to stimulate domestic tourism by supporting existing events or helping new events.
Two contestable funds were set up, one for Fiordland and one Southland, which were administered by Great South.
The Southland Regional Events Fund, with $180,000 available for events within the Southland Regional Tourism Organisation area was exhausted in October 2021, while the Fiordland Regional Event fund had $580,000 available. In this latest round, the final $43,135 was distributed.
Great South Conference and Events Manager Karen Witham said the events funds had done an excellent job of stimulating the regional events calendar as intended.
"Many of the events will become fixtures and the variety of events on offer is something communities are appreciating as much as visitors."
